Sponsored walk – Wednesday 14 July 2010 from 11am
Note change of venue for start of walk. The work that is currently being carried out on the avenue of the park leading to the war memorial has not been finished and we have had to slightly revise the walk to accommodate this – the walk will now start from the children’s play area and not as previously stated the war memorial.
‘Fancy a Stroll around Dartmouth Park?’
SVI [Sandwell Visually Impaired] and the Friends of Dartmouth Park join forces to make this lovely park accessible and a pleasure to everyone.
Wlak starts from Children’s Play Area, Dartmouth Park
Route 1: Circular walk in the park, distance approximately 1 mile
Route 2: Stronger walkers can also do a circuit of the pool, a distance of approximately 1.5 miles
Sponsorship forms available at the Deaf Resource Centre, Dagger Lane, or at www.sandwellvisuallyimpaired.org.uk or www.friendsofdartmouthpark.org.uk
Dartmouth Park is situated at the rear of SVI’s base at the Deaf Resource Centre in Dagger Lane West Bromwich. It’s a truly lovely park with a rich history and has in times gone by, been the ‘place to visit’ on Bank Holidays and sunny weekends. Do you remember the boating pool? The band stand? The café? The paddling pool? The Bowling Green or tennis courts?
Maybe you just have memories of warm sunny Sundays of days gone by? The park is now undergoing a ‘face lift’ and promises to be restored to its former glory. If you have any stories about the park – why not share your memories with us either by visiting www.friendsofdartmouthpark.org.uk or email SVI on info@sandwellvisuallyimpaired.org.uk
SVI and the Friends are coming together to raise funds for a sensory garden in the park – somewhere where colour, fragrance, texture and sounds can stimulate the senses and be a joy to everyone. We will also use funds raised to organise a walking group for visually impaired people as well as helping the Friends of the Park to carry on with the excellent work they are doing.
